ANALYTICAL FINDINGS

What the Data Revealed

Four metrics. Three dashboard pages. Hundreds of operational records — distilled into findings that matter.

73%
Average Collection Efficiency

Constrained by vehicle availability and suboptimal routing, with troughs on Mondays and in summer months.

2.3×
Sorting Impact Multiplier

Each 1% improvement in sorting accuracy yields 2.3% more marketable recovered material — the most powerful lever in the system.

40%+
Best vs. Average Gap

Top-performing facilities outperform the portfolio mean by over 40% in recovery rate — driven by operational know-how, not just capital.

67%
Top 3 Causes of Downtime

Mechanical failure, contamination, and maintenance overruns alone account for two-thirds of all operational downtime hours.

Recycling Rate Trajectory (2018–2027)

Egypt's progress toward the Vision 2030 target

The 2027 ⚑ point represents the Vision 2030 national target — not a measured value. Based on projected intervention impact of 15–20 percentage points above 2024 baseline.

Operational Downtime by Root Cause

Pareto distribution — top 3 causes = 67% of all downtime

⚠ Top 3 causes account for 67% of total downtime

What Else the Data Showed

01

Collection Efficiency: 73% Mean with High Variance

Vehicle availability was the primary constraint, not workforce. Analysis of temporal patterns revealed performance troughs consistently at the start of each calendar week and during peak summer months — both linked to fleet maintenance scheduling and heat-related vehicle failures.

02

Sorting Accuracy Drives Everything Downstream

Bivariate analysis found a statistically significant negative correlation between sorting accuracy rates and downstream material contamination. Front-end quality at the sorting stage directly determines how much material is marketable at the end of the pipeline — making it the highest-ROI investment in the system.

03

Downtime Distribution is Highly Skewed

Univariate analysis revealed a right-skewed distribution in downtime duration — a small number of high-magnitude mechanical failure events caused disproportionately large losses, while routine minor delays were far more frequent but less impactful. This supports predictive maintenance as the primary intervention.

04

40%+ Gap Between Best and Average Facilities

The best-performing facilities achieve recovery rates more than 40% above the portfolio mean. This gap is not explained by capital differences — it reflects operational practices, shift management, and sorting procedures. Best-practice dissemination is a zero-capital intervention with high potential impact.
